Protection for consultants and contractors

The backbone of our business is providing comprehensive solutions to environmental consultants and contractors. Whether it's Errors & Omissions to protect against allegations of negligent professional work; Contractors Pollution to guard against incidents while handling contaminated soils; Cyber Liability to cover you from emerging technology risks; or any of the other coverages we handle daily for our clients, nobody understands the insurance needs of environmental firms like Pro-Source does.

Taking the risk out of environmental risks

We provide expert pollution insurance solutions to a diverse range of sectors, from contracting to manufacturing to healthcare and more. Every operation has its own unique environmental risks, which could have unexpected and costly implications. This could include emergency response and clean up costs, regulatory fines and penalties, and lawsuits from 3rd parties alleging bodily injury or property damage. These financial risks can arise from a vast number of situations including but not limited to: chemical leaks, hazardous spills, asbestos disturbance, remediation errors, natural resource damages, and mismanagement of regulated waste.

A well constructed environmental insurance program should address all these exposures, transferring the risk off your balance sheet and onto an insurance company.

We have you covered.

All the coverage for the world you work in.
And the world you care about.

How We Do It

Our Principles

After almost a decade of working for large brokerages, our President Rick Cammidge realized something: Brokers were so focused on their own growth targets the needs of their clients had become a secondary issue. The result: exponential growth for the brokerages, but bigger gaps in service and impersonal treatment for many clients.

Rick believed there was a better way. A way that always put his clients goals first, and followed the simple belief that if he took exceptional care of his clients, his own goals would be fulfilled as a result.

So, in 2014, he founded Pro-Source to bring a new kind of insurance experience to clients across Western Canada. An experience based on these three client-driven principles:

Principle 1:

Collaboration

We’re in this together—your success is ours too. We take time to get to know you and your business so we can fully understand where you're headed and what we need to do to help you get there. Our collaboration ensures that your insurance plan is built with you, for you.

Principle 2:

Education

Knowledge is power. We are dedicated to ensuring you fully understand your risks and the intricacies of your insurance options and how they fit your business. Insurance is complex, and we admit it can be confusing. Whether you're a startup or a multinational, we'll always make time to answer all your questions and help you understand your insurance.

Principle 3:

Service

We'll never make you feel like an anonymous client. We want you to feel like you’re our only client, and think of us as another employee of your business. After all, we work for you, not the other way around. So, whenever you need us: day, night, weekends or holidays, we'll be available. Whenever you call us, we'll answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

For More Confidence

Here are a few of the questions we face regularly regarding environmental risk.

We clean up pollution—why do we need pollution insurance?

There are a few simple reasons:

  1. Legal Protection: All it takes is one allegation of inadequate remediation or worsening pollution to bring all parties who worked on a project into a legal proceeding. Your insurance defends you against suits regardless of merit
  2. Accidents happen: Maybe an employee misidentifies contaminated soil and it ends up being used as backfill instead of being sent to a landfill, resulting in clean up costs.
  3. Coverage Scope: Pollution policies cover government-ordered cleanups, fines, penalties, and emergency response costs, even without a lawsuit. Bottom line: if you're dealing with pollution, you need a pollution policy.
Why do we need an Errors & Omissions (E&O) policy—won't our Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy cover it?

Your CGL policy mainly covers bodily injury and property damage. It excludes professional services, meaning advice- or opinion-related services don't trigger coverage. For consulting work where clients make decisions based on your advice, you need E&O insurance. If a client sues over financial losses from your advice, without bodily injury or property damage, your CGL won't cover it. E&O insurance is designed for these financial risks.

Many Oil and Gas Master Service Agreements (MSAs) call for Sudden and Accidental Pollution coverage—what is that?

These MSA requirements aren't well-adapted for the environmental services sector. Sudden and Accidental Pollution coverage—an extension of General Liability Policy—EXCLUDE services related to the assessment, neutralization, handling, treatment, or processing of contaminants. This policy suits some Oil and Gas contractors, like welders or electricians. But it's inadequate for environmental services companies that need broader coverage, like a Contractors Pollution Policy, which is more suited to their specific risks.

Can I provide primary coverage for my subcontractors and sub-consultants on my policy?

This is a common question, but there's no definitive answer. Some insurers may cover subcontractors under your policy, while others might not. Ultimately, it boils down to who owns the liability. We can work with you and your subcontractors to create an insurance program. We can also leverage this to negotiate better terms with your insurer, which can reduce costs and benefit both parties.
